The FACTSnet team has been hard at work since the middle of May and has a made a significant amount of progress in several key areas. Setting the foundations for future work later in the summer and in years to come has been our focus. To accomplish this, the team has been working specifically on the revamping of the website and establishing our Canada 2017 Networks:
- www.Factsnet.org has been largely rewritten and partially reconfigured to make it more accessible and informative. All the navigation tabs contain new and updated content and the Home page has been visually improved.
- The Canada 2017 Network page has been established and customized to represent the three major areas of work. We will be beginning to publish content related to these networks shortly.
- Emails were sent out to schools in the Greater Edmonton Area and in Calgary to inform them of our projects and invite them to participate.
- The Mental Health Team has been coming up with a direction for the Mental Health Network, since this is the first year of its existence.
- They have written several blog posts, which focus on newcomer mental health in Canada and include interviews with international students willing to share their stories.
- The team has initiated contacts related to mental health at the University of Alberta, Campus St. Jean and in Parkland County.
- A dialogue is being planned for mid-August.
- The Heritage Team has also spent some time coming up with a direction for the 2017 Heritage Networks, although there are more pre-existing contacts to work with.
- The Heritage team took a trip to St. Albert in early June to meet with contacts at the School Board, the Public Library and the Musée Heritage Museum.
- Following this trip, we decided to concentrate on the Collections Development aspect of Heritage, and are working on some blog posts to lay the groundwork for this.
- The Heritage team will also be participating in the Dialogue in mid-August.
- The team has also been making connections in the Francophone Community, related to both Mental Health and Heritage. Elisia has talked to a number of people at the Campus St. Jean and in St. Albert about participating in one or more of our networks.
- The business team has also worked on the payroll information and is beginning to investigate services for non-profit organizations.
